Frequently Asked Questions about Exterior Painting Projects:

What do I need to do to prepare for my paint project?
Move any delicate or breakable items inside or away from the work area. If there is a shared access-area, please let your neighbor know that we will be doing work in the space. If the property needs to be power washed or was built before 1978, please make sure all windows are closed and locked. If you have any questions or concerns about your project, let your project manager know.

Do you handle lead paint projects?
Yes, we are EPA lead certified.

What is the difference between paint and a stain?
The main difference between paint and stain is that paint sits on top of the surface while stain seeps into the surface. Paint also needs to be used with a primer while stain does not require the use of a primer before it is used.

Do you do exterior work in the winter?
We do exterior work in weather that is 45 degrees or warmer. Some days during the winter are warm enough to work outdoors and we try to do some exterior work on warm enough winter days.

Which brand of paint do you use?
We typically use and recommend PPG, but we also use Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Farrow & Ball. We also use various Romabio projects for masonry and brick painting.

What warranty do you offer for projects?
We offer a 5 year exterior adhesion warranty on all exterior paint projects.

Will you inform my neighbors that you are working near their property?
No, we appreciate it if you contact your neighbors that we will be working in the area so they know we may be near or in their yards. If there are shared-access areas please inform neighbors we will be in the area.

How long does the project take?
Each project is different and your estimate will provide you with a project schedule. The length of the property depends on the size of the project and if trim is being painted as well. The time-frame of your project will be confirmed by your project manager.

Does Blue Star provide the paint or do I provide the paint?
Blue Star will provide the paint and the cost of the paint will be included in your project estimate. This price will also reflect the contractor discount Blue Star receives.

If I don’t know what color I want, can you help me pick one?
We can provide help with paint color choices. We can also refer you to one of our trusted designers to help you with the decision.

Do you prepare and repair Siding?
Yes, we can repair wood rot, caulk where needed and prime all areas. All surfaces will receive a light scuff sand to prepare the surface for paint and primer.
